Jon's Camp Journal

You likely would know our son from camp—his name is Jon and he was with an adult helper named Anna. Jon has autism, and I’m guessing you would have known him to be particularly expressive and sometimes loud! But a lot of fun. Here’s his picture. He loved Farm Camp and we will send him again next year for that reason. His most momentous experience was riding a horse! Something that Jon was unable to do at other camps. Thanks Kelly. We appreciate very much the nature of your organization and of course, you may use our comments and Jon’s photo to encourage others..glad you are there for kids like Jon.

Derek’s Peer Mentoring Days

My son Derek now 13 is developmentally delayed and suffers from numerous physical issues that cause him pain. Derek was extremely angry frustrated quite aggressive and had to be supervised continually. Verbal communication about feelings and surroundings was limited. We tried numerous other behavior programs, including rewards, set schedules to no avail. Programs tried to teach us as family to live with his behavior instead of teaching Derek to cope with the world around him. Since Derek’s Peer Mentoring, he no longer walks around with a scowl on his face. Now a generally well natured child, We have had a lot less issues with aggression towards people around him and have been able to give him some independence. Kelly has been able to work through issues Derek has in a way that he understands and accepts. He has also been able to be integrated into community groups (for grades 6-12) and tends to be accepted well. Prior, this was not an option as he needed so much attention and supervision. With Derek having this support, it has made our whole family less chaotic and happier. I would highly recommend Funny Farm for any family who needs support for their children.

Parental Praises

I have never heard my kids rave about a camp as much as they did with yours-thanks Funny Farm. They loved it! My daughter is not afraid of horses anymore and looking forward to visiting with us at the open house and bringing friends. Next summer she is going to ride!
