Counseling

Peer Mentoring

Peer Mentoring is the type of support Farmtown Canada offers through Funny Farm Ministries.

Weekly one-on-one sessions and voluntary meetings provide children, youth and families the opportunity to access support in order to foster personal growth and socially develop. Self esteem, anger management, self respect, relational and other behavioural issues are explored from the attendees perspective.

Peer mentors working with children are cooperative students (2nd or 3rd year) from College or University in fields that relate to Child and Youth Work, Education, Social Work, Social Justice and/or counseling.

Sessions are confidential in nature to encourage open dialogue and build trust. All children, youth and families go over their files and share information with their Peer Mentor.  Allowing them to be part of the process of support is the basis of empowerment in sessions. Interaction happens at Farmtown in the bunkhouse where space is casual and welcoming.

Animal interaction is used to help with communication and as a positive reinforcement.  Time spent with a peer mentor is casual, non threatening, but can be challenging and life changing.

Please call for an intake interview and have your name placed on our wait list.  You can reach us at 519 773-2292.
